Japan’s ANA Holdings cancelled 95 flights on November 29 after an Airbus A320 recall required the grounding of several aircraft, disrupting travel plans for about 13,500 passengers. ANA and its affiliates operate the largest number of A320 jets in Japan, making the airline particularly affected by the safety directive.
The global recall impacts more than half of the Airbus A320 fleet, a key aircraft model used widely across Asia for short-haul routes. The required fix involves rolling back to earlier software, which is relatively simple but must be completed before the planes can return to service.
Japan Airlines has not been affected, as its fleet is primarily composed of Boeing aircraft. Other regional airlines have reported varying levels of impact, with some expecting minimal disruption.
The recall underscores the scale of reliance on the A320 family, which includes over 11,000 active aircraft worldwide.
