Railway operators in Japan will run additional shinkansen services on Friday to help travelers affected by flight cancellations caused by heavy snowfall along the Sea of Japan coast.
Two extra bullet train services will operate on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Tsuruga in Fukui Prefecture, offering alternative transportation as severe winter weather continues to disrupt air travel in the region. Airports in nearby prefectures such as Ishikawa and Toyama are also facing delays and cancellations.
Weather authorities have warned that heavy snowfall is expected to persist across central Japan’s Hokuriku and Tokai regions through Saturday, with snowfall likely to intensify over short periods. Significant accumulation has already been recorded in parts of Fukui, raising concerns over major traffic disruptions.
The severe weather has also impacted industry, with temporary suspensions reported at several automobile manufacturing plants in central Japan due to transportation and logistics challenges.
