Brighton & Hove Albion continued their impressive away form on Wednesday, securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The result extends City’s winless run to three consecutive Premier League matches and leaves them five points behind leaders Arsenal, who have 48 points ahead of their match against Liverpool.
Manchester City opened the scoring four minutes before halftime through Erling Haaland, who converted a penalty after Jeremy Doku was brought down by Diego Gomez. The decision was confirmed by VAR, and Haaland made no mistake from the spot, scoring his 150th goal for the club and his 20th in the Premier League this season, ending a three-game scoring drought.
City appeared on course to secure all three points when Bernardo Silva struck the post early in the second half after capitalising on a Brighton error. The match saw tensions rise when goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and Maxim De Cuyper became involved in a heated exchange, with both players receiving yellow cards.
Brighton equalised in the 60th minute through Kaoru Mitoma, who demonstrated excellent technique to guide a low shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box. The Japanese winger received a pass from the flank and calmly slotted home to spark Brighton into life and shift the momentum of the match.
After levelling the score, Brighton took control and dominated the closing stages, coming agonisingly close to claiming all three points when Mitoma’s angled effort from near the byline struck the post. In the dying minutes, Haaland had a clear chance to win the match for City, but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen produced a magnificent save to deny him and secure a valuable point that demonstrated Brighton’s quality on the road.
