He is set to join the production for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027. Grint originally portrayed Ron Weasley across all eight films, alongside co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.
In a statement, Grint expressed his excitement about revisiting the character that has been a part of him since he was 11. He noted that returning to Ron Weasley, now depicted as a father, provides a unique opportunity to explore the character from a new perspective while maintaining a sense of familiarity. This follows a similar move by Tom Felton, who recently stepped into his film role as Draco Malfoy for the Broadway show. Felton is expected to continue his stint through January.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” debuted in London in 2016 and has since expanded to various international venues. The production has been a massive success, selling over 14 million tickets around the globe. In New York alone, it has generated more than $532 million in revenue. Grint’s involvement is likely to further boost interest in the show as it continues its successful run.
Grint made his Broadway debut back in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since his days in the Harry Potter films, he has expanded his acting repertoire with roles in projects like “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His upcoming return to the magical universe coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, which aims to introduce the beloved story to a new generation of fans.
