Israel remained deeply embedded in the military campaign against Iran on Saturday, conducting dozens of airstrikes across Iranian territory even as the multi-front nature of the conflict — including the ongoing campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon — stretched Israeli resources and attention. Israeli warplanes targeted missile systems and security infrastructure in Iran, killing at least 15 people in an airstrike on a factory in Isfahan. The Israeli military said its campaign was systematically degrading Iran’s capacity to launch missiles and sustain its security apparatus.
Iran fired rockets at Israel in return, keeping the Israeli home front under pressure as Israeli forces were simultaneously engaged in operations on Iranian territory and in Lebanon. The dual-front military commitment raised questions about sustainability, though Israeli officials gave no indication of scaling back either campaign. In Lebanon, more than 800 people had been killed and 850,000 displaced from Israeli strikes against Hezbollah, with Israel warning there would be no letup. The death of 31 Lebanese paramedics in Israeli strikes added to growing international concern about the conflict’s humanitarian impact.
The broader US-Iran conflict continued to intensify. US warplanes struck Kharg Island on Saturday for the second consecutive day. President Trump said in public remarks the island had been effectively demolished and called on allied nations to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz. He named China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK. His appeal was the first public suggestion that the US might need international help to reopen the waterway, which Iran had closed since February 28. Energy prices were approaching $120 per barrel with analysts warning of further increases.
Iran struck the UAE’s Fujairah oil port with ballistic missiles, suspending loading operations and prompting warnings for civilians to evacuate near ports and US installations. Iranian commanders threatened strikes on any Gulf energy facility with American ties. The foreign minister called on Arab states to expel US forces. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed Iran’s leadership was “desperate and hiding” and wounded. Iranian officials confirmed Khamenei’s injury but called it minor. The International Crisis Group said the regime remained intact and strategically coherent.
The human toll across the region was immense. More than 1,400 Iranians had been killed in sustained bombing. Thirteen Israelis and roughly 20 Gulf residents had died. Six US troops died in an aircraft crash in Iraq. The US embassy in Baghdad was struck, and Americans in Iraq were ordered to leave. For Israel, fighting on multiple fronts simultaneously while its economy, international reputation, and reserve forces all faced strain, the question of how long the current operational tempo could be sustained was becoming increasingly pressing.
