Nikkei 225 Gains 2.5% as Japan’s Trading Week Begins

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index experienced a robust start to the trading week, rising by 2.5% by midday on Monday. This gain marked a significant move for the index, reflecting positive sentiment in the Japanese stock market. Concurrently, the broader Topix index also saw an increase, climbing 1.2%.

Among the standout performers on the Nikkei 225 was electronics manufacturer TDK, which surged 8%. Additionally, watchmaker Seiko Holdings recorded a strong performance with a 6.8% rise. These gains contributed to the overall upward momentum in the Japanese stock market.

In contrast, trading activity in other parts of Asia presented a mixed picture. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index experienced a slight decline of 0.3%. Meanwhile, stock markets in mainland China and South Korea were closed due to public holidays, resulting in no trading activity in these regions.
